CREATIVE CAPLEN PROVIDES ORIGINAL ARWORK
“Abstract forms with spontaneity of artistic expression”

To differentiate our style from that of others, we called on Lilian Caplen, a local artiste d’ extraordinaire, to create unique and original artwork for our suites and Bistro.

“Growing up (and old) I have always had the urge to express myself visually. I am self-taught but have to give credit to many individuals and situations from which I have learned a great deal. Having lived all around South Africa, Namibia and the United Arab Emirates, The Garden route is now my home and I do not have to go far to look for inspirations.

My style is abstract and free, with little limitations in form, colour or concept. Important in my work is colour, movement and versatility. I generally paint large canvasses using texture, beads and other mediums, there creating a tactile surface to ensure a sense of movement. My work is “representational” rather than “illustrative” and I hope to elicit some kind of emotional response from the viewer. My pieces are more Interior Décor than serious art and its purpose is to enrich the living space for which it was created.

I am greatly influenced by my surroundings and take freely from nature and the life in general. My husband and our 2 daughters are the inspiration and motivation for my work. Their support and realism is what keeps my feet on the ground while my head is in the clouds”.
